If you didn't get the reference, that's a quote from Sooty. Sooty was a popular UK kid's TV program I used to watch back when I was little, and the titular teddy bear would always be waving his magic wand around. I figured, since my mascot OC Fnuzzlee (aka Felicity Nuzz Lee) is a witch (a Familian, which is basically an anthropomorphic witch familiar), it would be a suitable catch phrase for her as well. Don't sue me BBC, I pay for you to exist goddammit!

Okay, moving on... Here's a little something I worked on during my stress break from DeviantArt during June...

Like many other artists, I really enjoy TysonTan's cute anthropomorphic artworks. If you don't know who he is, you've probably already seen his art if you've ever used the popular Krita drawing application (you know, the one I and many other online artists use). TysonTan is famous for designing Krita's adorable mascot, Kiki the Cyber Squirrel, but he's also designed mascots for many other open source software projects such as KDE.

Well then... since I've been drawing my OC Fnuzzlee in a variety of different art styles, I thought I'd try for one similar to TysonTan. The same sort of cute, wholesome, seemingly lineless style! It would be a challenge, but it would be well worth a try, right?

As a very large and popular artist, TysonTan has spawned many imitators who aspire to draw similarly to his distinctive style, one of those being Jo-Vee-Al over on DeviantArt. I decided to use one of his drawings as a close reference for my own artwork, to keep the art style as on point as possible, but I did not trace his artwork line for line, since that would be cheating and I would learn nothing from that. You can see how I produced my own artwork over on my DA sta.sh.

There's nothing wrong with using references of course, and I'm very proud of what I designed, drew, coloured and shaded all by myself. That's why I'm sharing it here, after all! You've probably noticed that I drew Fnuzzlee in her traditional witch costume, to better fit a sort of anthro fantasy theme, but did you notice she's actually wearing a slightly more conservative variation with less "skin" showing? Yeah, I've decided that this will be her main SFW witch outfit from now on, though she'll still wear her skimpier outfit with the loincloth when she needs to be flirty on the occasion. Another thing you may have noticed is the wand! Yeah, it is a little ordinary looking, but this is Fnuzzlee's magic wand. It performs pretty much the same function as her staff, which is to amplify her magic powers. But that's only so helpful when your main problem is being a ditzy klutz...

Anyway... It was a lot of fun, and I think I learned a lot from the experience too. I may even incorporate aspects of this style into some of my future drawings eventually (for instance, the lack of line underneath the eyes looks much better than whatever I was doing before IMO). Oh, and one more thing... Jo-Vee-Al made a crossover picture containing a whole bunch of DeviantArt artists' OCs a few years back, which I previously commented on saying that it would be cooler if my character had been part of it. Well... I finally got to have my own attempt at making that happen, he he! I'm not going to release it publicly, obviously, but if you're interested you can have a look on my sta.sh.
