Description
From Technical Readout: 3025The sight of BattleMechs lumbering across the terrain is a familiar one
among the worlds of the Inner Sphere. Nevertheless, the sight of an AS7-D
Atlas still manages to make even experienced MechWarriors break out in a sweat
and brings the bitter taste of bile to their mouths.
The Atlas was designed as a last-ditch attempt to ensure the superiority
of the Star League's Regular Army over the growing armies of the House Lords.
It was an understandable reaction to the Cameron edicts passed from 2751 to
2761 by the High Council, which permitted the five Lords to double the size of
their personal armies. General Kerensky himself set down the specifications
for the Atlas. He said it should be "a 'Mech as powerful as possible, as
impenetrable as possible, and as ugly and foreboding as conceivable, so that
fear itself will be our ally."

At over 730,000 polygons, this model took me around four months of off-and-on construction and revisions. While I didn't count the hours, I did have some difficulty designing parts to fit my own style. As far as that goes, what I wanted to do was build a 'mech that was different than many of my previous builds. As the description says, I wanted to make this beast look UGLY! While this isn't my first attempt at the Atlas, it is my best and only one that I continued until the end. My main problem in the past was getting the head to look...right. It wasn't until recently that I felt my skills were up to the challenge.
The model itself is scaled to stand at around 16.5 meters tall, (54 feet). A bit taller than my other mechanized behemoth, the Clan Ghost Bear Kodiak. I armed it with the standard AS7-D variant weapons: Autocannon 20, LRM 20, SRM 6, and four medium lasers - with two of the lasers facing towards the rear.

I tried to make it as big and ugly and mean as possible.

AS7-D Atlas. The *original* Poster Boy of Battletech, before that upstart pretty boy Timber Wolf stole the spot.

Quite so! A nasty thing to run into during classic games.

Thank you. I'd post more stuff like that here on dA but I don't want to litter my account with WIP images and unfinished projects.

Recon run, crowd control, border patrol, a stroll to the local shoppette...
