Description
Date: 20th November 1962Former North Western Railway Controller, Sir Charles Topham Hatt inspects bullet ridden NWR No.D1 βDaisyβ.
The unique BR Single Car Class 101 DMU, was caught in the crossfire during a mission against Communist Partisans in Manchester.
Work was quickly taken to repair the engine, but with both fuel tank and engine damaged, the engine was used as a glorified coach until withdrawal in 1978.
In 1990, the DMU was restored back to working order on the
Ffarquhar Branch Heritage Railway.
