Description Continuing with the hypothetical Avatar series I was working on, I decided to give our two heroes some foes to face during their search for the Avatar, Since the main villains wouldn’t want to get their hands dirty themselves.
This is a group of talented benders that devoted themselves to Astulfur’s cause, or as he calls it “ The great unification”.
The leader of the group is Gorth, the one in the middle, on the left there’s Sanmka, a former member of Republic city’s metal benders, and on the right there’s Lindet, a powerful sound bender, whose unfortunately deaf.
So let’s start with Lindet: she was born in the Sound nation, one of the four nations of the Western Hemisphere, where people are pacifists and enjoy art and music, but they are extremely aggressive towards blind and deaf people, as they believe that those that can’t feel the world around them are imperfect beings. So at a young age, Lindet was exiled along with her family to the light kingdom, the worst place for a refugee to go. Lindet life was a living hell, surviving only by stealing food with a group of others young thieves. During this time she discovered that despite her disability she was a sound bender. Learning the art of bending isn’t easy for someone that can’t hear sound, but through intense training and determination, she was able to control this power. When she showed her friends her bending, they were excited, they never had a bender on the team and they thought that Lindet powers could be the key for a better future. They later planned to rob the villa of a rich light bender and taking his daughter hostage for some big ransom, but seeing the luxury they lived in and the thought that she could have lived that life, made something click in Lindet’s mind, the things that happened that night, in that villa, should probably remain there. Lindet was the only one that got out in one piece. She quickly got captured and arrested, but after less than a month in prison, every prisoners mysteriously vanished into thin air. This was Astulfur’s doing, that recruited the convicts into his army after using his bending to free them. And so Lindet was recruited into his army, making herself known upon other rookies for her stubbornness and quick temper.
Since Lindet is a Sound bender, I should probably explain how it works. A sound bender can create huge shockwaves from any type of isolated sound or they can amplify their voice at insane levels, emitting an intense screech or a powerful blast. Like many sound benders, Lindet has little bells on her armor to create sound waves that can be manipulated through dance moves, specifically a type of dance that involves spins and elegant movements, quite in contrast with Lindet personality.
The second member of this team is Sanmka, a former metal benders of Republic city, who deserted after being left for dead during a rescue mission. Sanmka spent all of his life admiring the Avatar’s work in keeping balance and peace to the world, but all of these convictions came crushing down, when he was escorting an ambassador to a village in the earth kingdom. During an earthquake, a nearby vulcano erupted, Sanmka tried his best, but he wasn’t able to save anyone and he barely made it out alive. Later he discovered through the radio that while he and his unit where risking their life, the Avatar was at Ba Sing Se, making some sort of bending spectacle. The catastrophe was later covered by the various government, fearing that this would have made people lose faith in the Avatar. This event convinced Sanmka that the Avatar wasn’t an agent of balance, but an agent of chaos, that has influenced people life to the point that authorities had to cover his/her failures in order to keep the situation under control, so when he heard about the assault on Republic city, he didn’t esitate to join in. Now a trusted officer of Astulfur’s army, his duty is to guide the team through the the Eastern hemisphere in search of the Avatar. The last member of this research team is Gorth whose a bit of an exception among the invading forces. Gorth isn’t a human being, but one of the many creatures from the Western Hemisphere, specifically a camouflager, that joined Astulfur’s army. The art of bending was thought to be exclusively for humans and a few types of animals, but when the invading forces started the invasion, a few camouflagers started developing various bending abilities, Gorth was one of these lucky few. He developed fire bending while raiding a building with a large group of soldiers, and due to the camouflagers cowardly nature, he started to panic, strengthening an already lit up fire. When the situation started to get critical and he and the others were trapped, he felt a new strength that he never felt before. With his new found courage he was able to save his entire platoon. After this event, Gorth became more confident and cocky, even when outnumbered, compared to the other camouflagers. This however brought on him the hate of numerous officers, but with his sharp tongue and smooth talk, he was able to get a lot of soldiers by his side. This attracted the attention of the mysterious entity that helped Astulfur with his plan, who suggest to let him lead a team to track down the new Avatar.
Among the three of them, Gorth is the one who does the talking, Lindet is muscles, while Sanmka is the most experienced, giving advices to his two young teammates.
