Thanks a lot!
The add is great for what Ii needed. For as I see, it is becoming now the official add for Google Chrome.
It's truly great as I see it up to now. It would be good if there where any way to see a difference between the Watchs and the Messages. Got some ideas but I'm not sure if they are for the best general interest.
Just one more thing: Latelly It has been showind me an Error icon and the toolbar says: "Error: parsing failed". Got any idea why?

P.S. Okay, it's not the most bad thing - first off, the exception is handled properly, it could just crash, you know.. And then again what I said about you being beta-tester.

That's the most bad thing that can happen. Thank you for reporting it.
The extension works by loading [link] page and looking for the upper bar, from where it extracts the username along with the prefix symbol, and the messages text. In case it unexpectedly fails to find either part, a parsing error is reported.
As far as I can say from your username, you're a beta-tester for deviantART. This basically means that your deviantART site pages have a different structure that I have no access to. It is to be expected that simple ways which work with the "usual" version fail for you.
Does that happen only from time to time or is it stable? In either case, whenever you see it, please open the URL yourself, open its source (Ctrl+U) and send it to me. I understand it contains privacy-sensitive information, you can strip it as you see fit, but if you do, please preserve the HTML tag stucture. I'll try to see what I can do.

Oh yes, I can see that.
I was quite sure that it started "not working" moreless when I became a Beta-tester for the "DeviantArt v7", but wasn't either sure if it was at the same time neither if it had something to do.
Now I deactivated the v7 and confirmed it is the reason (Plus, it was worth to see again the intro animation when I reactivated )
So, I guess we'll have to wait until the new v7 becomes available to general public, or you would have to make a double version (I suppose it has to be something like that )
So, if you add the warning "Doesn't work with new v7 beta layout", I can say it is working perfectly . Well done
( PS: I have seen the source code, it really is quite different from the one before. As I said before, we'll have to wait until is public the new version, so you don't work double, nor triple, if the release version changes once more )

I certainly hope so too
By the way, if you'll need any functions added, don't hesitate to write some feedback, I'll see about it.

tested it right now, works very well so far (even when entering refresh times like 0.5 minutes)
however, perhaps there could be an option for a sound notification, and/or opening the message center when a new message is there (an option that could be deactivated ^^)
but for the moment, i'm very happy, and i appreciate your effort

I tried to make it behave in the same way as Google Reader Notifier works.. Sound is probably possible to do, while popups - I'm not sure. Chrome's extension architecture is fairly restrictive, AFAIK popups can only show when you click on the button.
Also, consider these problems: imagine you have a bunch of new messages. Should it make a sound every 0.5 minutes until you open it? How should it react to and how should it detect messages being read? All these kinds of questions need to be worked out..

Lassic In reply to logeg [2010-02-27 20:56:40 +0000 UTC]
mmhh, i'd prefer if it only made a sound when there's a new message (like, one more than the last time it checked)

Wouldn't catch ALL new messages: you could've read 2 messages and a new one could arrive meanwhile. And parsing exactly what messages you have is something I want to avoid to keep things simple.
Still, maybe this tactic is better than nothing. I'll look into it, maybe tomorrow.

thanks again!

I did want to make a little update anyway, mainly to make it possible to adjust network timeout interval, and to overhaul some code I don't like if I have time. Adding a sound notification wouldn't add much work.

Pretty good that u managed to put something together without much programing experience ^^

Haha, thanks, yeah, those were two evenings of mostly putting together scraps and bits from whatever mentioned in Credits section on Options page, and long sessions of staring at the code trying to figure out where the parse error is
