What needs brainstorming now is what to put into desktop notifications.

You can make a toast-style popup above all windows on your desktop, even if Chrome is minimized/buried deep below, with an HTML page.
The main problem is that it must be quite small, it can only support a few lines of text (more than in the screenshot, but no more than, say, 7) or it starts showing scrollbars instead of growing.
So. What to put in a notification like that?

the scroll bar cant be styled so that not problem there, but the notification shouldn't annoy users so minimal and something that either goes With ALL OS or fits in with dA,
i think if it would be nice for there to be a option say if you was on Mac to have it styled as the Default Prowl Notification type thing and windows for it to look like the MSN one, or just a style that looks like dA, as its -Webkit- anything is possible,
i think like 5 or below should be enough, maybe it could display the logo of each item to cut down uneeded text ill do a few mock ups see if i can get them on here to show you before 3 if not it wont be till 7 sometime

Since I'm planning to switch to DiFi, like devAny did, I'll have details on every message.
For instance, if there's one new message and we detect that, we could simply put, like, deviation's name and author there with a link to that message in the message center (directly linking to the deviation isn't a good idea if you prefer to clean inbox out). I could output, say, top 3 detailed messages and put "(more..)" after that. If you've seen devAny's popups while they worked you'll get the idea.
Of course it should be somewhat dA-styled but I'd prefer not to vary it across OSes.

Also, I'm thinking of implementing a popup menu for the extension button, so that instead of going to the messages you could select a category, much like dA's own menu. All of this can be optional, of course. Do you think it's a nice idea?

oh that sounds good, yeh the more sounds good, i'd think its best not to ram to much on there, just like the newest ones on there and if the "more" button is clicked it shows well more,

with the v7 layout, in the Messages drop-down menu, you can choose to "unsplinter" the menu, so the amount of messages are listed nicely in the top bar.
however, when you do this, deviantanywhere shows you don't have any messages
think you can fix this?

I've got the most basic functionality back already - the message count.
I'd really want to see a breakdown as provided by the dropdown menu. So it'll be another.. say, 30 minutes.

Man i have a problem since i install it,
every time is on "?" the notifier and every time i click on it makes red the little head,

Added an option to set network timeout - go to options and change that to 10 and see if it fixes it for you.

It depends on what error it's showing if you hover the mouse over it.
Try it - read what it says in the tooltip. If it always says "Request timed out", that means your internet is too slow for the default timeout.. If that's the case, I'll make a hotfix where you can change the timeout.

Just curious, I've got like 2,601 messages (don't ask, lol) and the notifier shows only 603. Why is that?

I meant to make it compatible with cases like "2 Deviations 1 Message", so it would produce 2+1 = 3. But here it doesn't work correctly and interprets 2 and 601 separately.
It's certainly a bug, but I've never had that many messages and I'm not accustomed to thousands separator, so I understandably overlooked it.
I can produce a hotfix if you wish; I don't have time at all now to do what I wanted for v0.5, but that is just changing a couple of lines. To do so, please tell me - is it exactly written "2,601", no spaces inside etc.?

Done, Chrome will push the update automatically eventually but you can go to extensions page and click "Developer mode" -> "Update extensions now".
Your feedback is welcome if you still have over 1000 unread messages.
