on june 10, 2009, in a Something Awful.com forum thread called "Create Paranormal Images", the user Victor Surge posted the first picture of slenderman, which originally was a sort of shepherd of children.

the entire thing is fake, created on something awful.com and it took on a life of its own. to this day i have yet to see a single person credit victor surge, even in commercial projects
