This makes me of think of a person who wake up to find total caous in a world of mass distruction, but he himself is the person who contrubuted the most to all of this terrior and he didn't think blood would be spilt, he thought he could make a better world- But he failed and now his world in coming to an end.

It makes me think of when I have "nesting dreams". Like dreams within dreams, where I think I'm awake, but I'm really still dreaming. They just nest inside each other like those Russian dolls.
