Phew! I finally finished this one. This is worth a full view. I normally don't like to do small preview images, but squashing this image down to a thumbnail just doesn't seem... right.This scene didn't end up anything like I imagined when I started it. I'm happier with the final result than what I had planned. This was originally going to be a wyvern and its rider. Somehow they ended up "merging".
This scene has got more custom work in it than I have ever done before. The hooked scythe, arm fins, leg fins, and arches are all custom creations. If there is enough interest, I will consider making the scythe a download for 3DConnect members. The trees, aiko's body, and aiko's hair have got custom texture work as well.
The scene was rendered in Povray 3.6. I made heavy use of amospheric effects.

I saw the preview image and was interested. So I came in here and clicked the image to emlarge it.
My first thought upon seeing the whole image was, literally, ''It's Perfect''.

Love that volumetric light and the use of colored lights in the back (or was that postwork?).
The background looks awesome. Even if made of repeated simple objects, the lighting is so great that it puts Poser rendering to shame.
Amazing how much outfit detail is revealed by using PovRay to render - it makes everything look better, must be worth the rendering time!
Just odd the character projects no shadow on the background.

I love povray's media effects, but they are cpu intensive. The colored lights in the back are the result of ground fog effects. I really expected the ground to have more shadows, but it didn't. I'm not quite sure why. I think it has to do with spreading out the lights to get that glowing effect in the background fog. Still it seemed to give the whole scene a "painting" feel.
You can kind of "fake" volumetric lights in poser by creating a cone object, setting the edge transparency to 1. Set the main transparency to something like 0.7 and set the ambient color to something bright.

Yes, I recently realized the ambient light can be used for a number of effects, to include light-emitting materials that Poser itself doesn't really have.
