Description Hmmm... I almost decided not to upload this one, but why not eh?

I normally don't do close up work, because nothing shows flaws in 3D work like closeups. However, I have always been inspired the life like renders over at the cgisociety website.

This piece was my first real attempt at designing skin shaders for Povray that have a more realistic look. I don't think I am there yet, but I am tired of working on this one. I'll get back to it sometime in the future.

It's quite awesome =3 But I think I know the reason to why she looks like a doll. Perhaps it's because her eyes are kind of big, like what dolls usually have, and the skin around it too..the skin makes the eyes look more lice plastic slits. I also noticed that inside of her ear is kind of just flat.

That's looking good, especially in the nose area. The lighting is great too, very interesting. Are those little darker spots part of the image map, like freckles? I like her face too, different and very elf-ee.

The darker spots are something I added. They look to regular on the body though. I seem to be "spot challenged" in povray.

I bet there's a way to make the spots more irregular. In POV-Ray, you can do anything.

Any ideas? I read that comment and got all curious. So, now I do have an idea. But, I don't know if its any better than your's. If you want, you can try it by running this scene and see what you think.
camera {location <0,0,-4> look_at <0,0,0>}
plane { z, -20 texture {
pigment { dents color_map {
[ 0.000 0.04 color rgb < 1, 1, 1> color rgb < 1, 1, 1> ]
[ 0.05 1 color rgb <0,0,0> color rgb <0,0,0> ] }
turbulence 0
poly_wave .5 } //bigger for more spots,
// .7 is really spotty,
// .45 is not very spotty
finish { diffuse 0 ambient 1 } }
scale .05 }

poly_wave? looks like I still have a lot to learn.

Yeah, I don't what the hell it is. I figured stars are random spots. So, I looked in the stars.inc, which had sine_wave (well, at least I know what a sine wave is ) Then I tried poly_wave, which seemed to work better than sine_wave.

mmmmm... povray is not for the feint of heart, but it will reward you with some hard work.

explain yourself... I'm not quite feint of heart... I just have a little patience problem.. I lack it!

Lokai2000 In reply to Luizalenora [2007-01-12 02:09:27 +0000 UTC]

Patience problem? Did I mention povray can be sloooooooooooow (hours) to do final renders.

However, it is free and supports things like
caustics,
radiosity,
depth of field,
different camera types (wide angle, fish eye, spherical, normal),

and many other feature that only seem to show up in raytracers that cost lots of $$$.

You can judge for yourself. [link]

hehe, so you actually use povray =3
I thought you still were using 3dmax

Lokai2000 In reply to hitsunekun [2007-01-12 01:33:08 +0000 UTC]

I only use 3DSMax when I need to model something.

I don't think it has a bad render engine, there just aren't any good tools for moving poser files over to it out there. (well, I haven't found any.... )

maybe its the type of texture?

Lokai2000 In reply to MissKaoru [2007-01-12 01:31:04 +0000 UTC]

It is a combination of things. The bump mapping for the skin is completely wrong and I can't get the caustics for the eyes to work out with re-modeling them (ACK!). Oh well.

in any case its still a realy nice picture ^.^

PowerRulez In reply to ??? [2007-01-11 23:21:03 +0000 UTC]

it kinda looks like a very realistic doll or ne of the things they use in the movies cause the lightin makes it look like its real but the skin still isnt quite perfect

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lokai2000 In reply to PowerRulez [2007-01-12 01:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. I don't think it is just the lighting. I think the glow of the skin helps, but I agree with everyone else in that the bump mapping of the skin is not correct. Oh well, like I said, I am tired of working on it for now.
