Description a.k.a. The Sanguine Princess

asked me to participate in a deviant art jam with the theme of vampires. Here is my piece for the theme. I hope everyone enjoys her. I had fun creating her and it was nice to have something that broke my block for a bit.

This piece is also using some new features of my PIBL lighting engine that will be showing with the next release.

It apparently sent before I meant it to. I personally love the eyes, hair, and bat wings the best. It's very sweet, and definitely faved.

Nice work! I like the bat wing and cloth things a lot. The textures are great. The expression is great too. Teddy got dirty. Will you tell what your new features are? Or shall I wait?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lokai2000 In reply to parrotdolphin [2007-05-17 01:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Yep... Teddy has been through a lot.

You don't have to wait. I'll tell you.

You can specify a prefix for the file names so it is easier to mix light sets.
There is a daylight mode where the lights don't fall off and the main lights are all parallel.
There is an option to jitter the light "point_at" targets. This helps reduce the "hot spots" in the scene.
There is an option to generate a light ball where the lights emanate out from a center point.

I am still playing with some of these to figure the best way of implementing it. I currently have two methods for the daylight mode. I haven't figured out which one I like better. I may end up adding both.

Wow, those all sound like great features. The light ball sounds like it could make some interesting effects. And you could have a few of them even, which would be easy with the prefix feature.

I wanted her to be a bit ....disturbing.....

healthyinsanity [2007-05-16 12:30:05 +0000 UTC]

Well it's really interesting and I love the design work and the array of things. What throws me off though is her skin tones, she's warm, though deadish in all but her face where she gets really ashy. Was this intentional?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lokai2000 In reply to healthyinsanity [2007-05-16 12:37:32 +0000 UTC]

Well... she is one of the undead. I wanted the skin tones to be unnatural. What is weird is that people seem to think she should be full of color and life.....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

GrIMAge [2007-05-16 11:23:36 +0000 UTC]

She looks delicious (nice... ears... btw... uh... ) and the colors are well distributed throughout her skin (though there seem to be some "gradient shading" on her neck? or it is just me? ) - the teddy bear is the niftiest touch... i wonder if she keep her blood reserve of 1985 inside it so she can give a bite when the red thirst strikes! Cool work all over mate - lovely vampress!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lokai2000 In reply to GrIMAge [2007-05-16 12:38:46 +0000 UTC]

The skin tones are off. I wanted her to look like she hasn't had a snack in a while. This seems to be disturbing people for some reason.....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GrIMAge In reply to Lokai2000 [2007-05-16 13:16:07 +0000 UTC]

Well... no one would like being looked over as snack... i just don't have the right package... and i'm not genuine enough either... i wouldn't want her to get a demon blood intoxication, would i...? ... ...

Seriously though, what i was referring to was a slight "block shading" effect in her neck, not the overall color tone... that i thought it was a design choice - not all vampires are represented with pale skin - sometimes it is done just for contrast (for instance, the cross pendant would contrast more with the "classic" vampire idea... i love putting crosses on vampire too... ) but there are also historical references - one of the first documents referring to vampires presented the creature as "bloated and red with the sucked blood of his victims"... so the warm skin tone is not necessarily a mistake... although it might be so if you were aiming for something else, but i usually don't point out things that could've been a matter of the artist's choice... after all it's a matter of points of views there... ... and i still think she's looking quite good!

Lokai2000 In reply to GrIMAge [2007-05-16 22:41:16 +0000 UTC]

I think I have influenced by the Anne Rice world of vampires.
And I don't think Lady Lauckner would pass up a chance at a demon. Think of the power that blood would hold! Not so sure about the taste though.....

I think the blocking you are talking about is an artifact of the lights shining through the lace, but, I could be wrong.

Gorgeous work! Everything is so crisp and detailed. Her hair looks so realistic and you can really see the amazing texture of her clothes. I LOVE that she's holding a teddy bear, makes it a little more evil somehow...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ken1171 [2007-05-16 09:26:53 +0000 UTC]

It's nice to see how POVray preserves detail that is usually blurred away by Poser rendering. The lighting is also superior (but so might also be the rendering times). One of the things about Aiko is that she often shows without eyebrows, even when there is materials assigned to them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

bodarlau [2007-05-16 08:22:52 +0000 UTC]

she's kind of grown up (if you look at some specific detailts ) for still holding a teddy-bear... , nice modelling, nice textureing, but you could have used a more creepyer light. Anyway, it's a great piece of work.
