Description
I needed a break from doing serious work for a while, so I like to do something completely different every now and thenThis piece came about as the result of recent discussions with Ken1171 [link] . He managed to convince me to go back and take a second look at Poser's Firefly for doing cell type renderings (Thanks Ken!). This piece is actually the result of several renderings with some postwork to tie them together. I am happy with how it turned out. Things are not perfect, but it is probably the best cel rendering I have ever done.
Before anyone asks, the clean lines are the result of overlaying preview renders with the firefly renders. The result turned out well.
Doh! I realized after I submitted this that there was an off-center render that was supposed to be include. If anyone wants to see it, it is at this link.

Gotta say that the Poser's cell shading looks a lot better than it's photo-realistic shading. Good job

Nice results. I love this character sheet. I've been wanting to do a character sheet of my OC. Maybe should see on doing it as a celshade.

I think I saw those cat eyes before. Aren't them Yggdrasil's custom AD cat eyes?
This came out very clean and sharp, great job!
I think great deal of 3D cel shading is about a combination of both shaders and proper *lighting*, and here you have it!
The poses are pretty good and the expressions came out very cute. ^^
This looks like one of those character sheets for conceptual art.
Cool!

I have had those files installed so long it took some digging to find out where they came from. Yes, the eyes are Yggdrasil's. Part of the hair is Yggdrasil's as well.
The lighting was a pain.
I have always like those concept art sheets. I thought it would be fun to try one out. I enjoyed the whole process enough to make me want to do it again sometime. Now if I could just figure out how to make animations like this.....

The toon shading results you've got came out so well that some of the people I've showed it to actually thought it was hand drawing.
As for animations, I think Poser can be a pain sometimes because of the way it tweens between keyframes. One might find it mysterious how undesired animations are happening where there are no keyframes at all. Sometimes adding a single keyframe can mess up the entire animation. I still haven't fully understood how to deal with such in-between tweenings that Poser adds to your animation, but I have some hope Yggdrasil will help there. He seems to know how that works, or at least, so he claims. ^^

I also have some experience in that area. The key is to break the splines at key points where the motion stops. However, I've forgotten to do this at times and *boom* everything gets screwed up like you said.

Ygg told me I have to configure how the tweenings will behave *before* creating any keyframes. How is that done?

This was done in version 6. A new material shader was called toon. It doesn't exist in version 5. Similar effects can be achieved in version 5 by other means though. I afraid it would be to difficult to explain the whole process in a short message though.
This might be something worth doing a tutorial on though.

Awww.
I've tried the other toon shading tutorials I've found and none of them really look *right*, y'know? I'll just have to wait til I get my next computer and upgrade to 6. Thanks for the response

Have you played with anime compiler's material set for Poser 5? I included a link to the site it can be downloaded from. You will have to get a login ID for the forums to get access to the download area.

Hmmm. It might take a bit to explain, but Ken1171 figured out to make my cel process work in Poser 5. Let me know if you are interested.

I guess I should have summarized. I tend to get to technical sometimes. This piece was an experiment to see if I could use rendering tools to make Anime style art. Thanks for the compliment!
