You wake up slowly and as your senses come, the first thing you feel are warm arms wrapped around you. You smile, snuggling deeper into Barry's embrace. It is the first night you two have spent together, though nothing happened. You aren't disappointed. In fact, you thought it was more special this way. Nightmares had been plaguing you for weeks on end lately, ever since your encounter with a metahuman who tried to kill you. Perhaps it had been pathetic, but you just couldn't take it anymore and found yourself on Barry's doorstep, seeking his comfort. He made you a warm cup of hot chocolate and then stayed up late just laughing and talking with you. By the time you both decided you had to go to bed, you felt much better. Barry laced his fingers with yours and led you to the bedroom, giving you an extra pair of his t-shirts and sweats to borrow. You were nervous at first, not sure what to expect. But after you crawled under the covers, Barry simply pulled you close, kissed your forehead, and whispered goodnight. After that, you quickly fell asleep.
Now waking up, you remember that Barry hadn't worn a t-shirt to bed. Your cheek rests against his bare chest as he breaths up and down. You glance up and see his eyes closed, still asleep. Unable to resist, you press your face back to his chest and kiss it, right over his beating heart. His arms tighten around you and you glance up, startled. His eyes are still closed, but he's grinning.
"What was that for?" He asks, sleepily.
You blush, suddenly embarrassed. "I...uh..." you stutter. Then you utter the only thing that seems to make sense to you in this moment. "I love you, Barry."
Barry smiles wider and shifts his head deeper into the pillows. His hand caresses your forearm, causing a warmth to spread through you, starting with his touch, all the way down to your toes. "I love you, too," He says, softly. Then he is fast asleep again, breathing deeply. You snuggle deeper against him, because never have you felt so safe.
