i know you can do borders with gimp..but for the text strip it only has 3 sides. so it doesnt work in gimp

you can do borders in gimp.

go CTRL+A (to select all) then go edit stroke selection and from there it is self explantitary (S.P?)

Also, instead of changing the color to grey, I do a gradient, so it looks faded.

UPDATE!!!!
anouther thing i like to do with my bannners is copy them from GIMP(once you have the text strip in before u add text)
into paint and add a little border around the text strip with the square tool=]
then after you add text and are all done go to script-fu and go to decor then go to add border then get a 1 pix border whatever color
