So during most of the car ride back I was silent.

“No way am I going to let him do this to Damian or me!’

“Hey, how’s the auto mail?” I heard him ask.

“”It’s perfect, thank you.” I snapped.

He sighed and rubbed my head. I knew he cared for me and all but, it was his own fault that I got the damn auto mail.

It was over five years ago. Luke had caused an explosion. I was caught in it. Getting my arm severed off at the same time. I was lucky to get out alive, the doctor told me. Luke decided that I should get an auto mail, a replacement arm in which was metal. I didn’t like it but, I wanted to be able to work. So, on with the three year training. I trained with Luke everyday to get back in shape. In that time Luke became very protective of me. I guess he was like the big brother I never had more or less.

I took off my glove and moved my metallic like fingers. Everything happened so quickly that night that it seemed liked a dream. Not a dream but a nightmare. One that I couldn’t wake up from, the non-stop, never ending type. Then when I thought it was unbearable, I woke up. The miracle that would never happen, happened. And, I was glad for once. It wasn’t a dream though, it was reality.

“Sad how the real world is, right Luke?” I asked quietly.

“If you really think about it, yeah. The real world is saddening”

When he looked at me I guess he saw me looking at my hand.
“You shouldn’t think about the past. Think about now, all the
people who need you Ashley. Don--”

“Shut up. I do what I do for a reason.” I cut him off.

“And for what reason is it?” He challenged

“Non of you business!”

He sighed and gave up.

When we reached HQ, Jared and Derek were waiting for Luke and me. I smiled and gave Derek a noogie. Jared, well, I just ruffled his hair and walked inside. ‘At least it’s air conditioned.’ I thought. It wasn’t exactly home but, it’s an exception. I mean it’s comfortable but what’s that word, oh yeah, cluttered. Soda cans, instant soup containers, mugs with left over coffee, and need I say more?

“Stake out? Or, All nighter?” I asked.

“All nighter!” Derek replied with a yawn.

“Just because you need to pull an all nighter dose not mean you can do this to HQ!” Luke snapped.

Jared sighed and said, “ Some of it was your fault! And, yes cap’ in.”

I started picking up most of the trash that was spude everywhere.

Derek started walking next to me afterwards. “So, any luck on finding where your date is being kept?”

“Shh! Luke hears, he’ll lock me in a room with himself! But, no. Just about to ask you.”

“room 2634.”

My eyes lit up when he said that.

"Thank you so much!”
