Description

Just a simple process gif of my first drawing of Buck and Radhi

All done in FireAlpaca

1.) Sketch: Done with basic marker brush. Kept Radhi's sketch kinda loose so I could fiddle around with her hairstyle/stripes/proportions. I was still kinda making her up as I was working on this (Fun fact: in my first draft of her character, she was a cow....then an antelope....then finally, a zebra)

2.) Lineart. Done with the same marker brush. Smooth lineart takes lots of practice and a steady hand. I turn my line correction on only for long brush strokes, otherwise I find it makes my lines look too stiff and inorganic

3.) Base colors. Added on a layer below the lineart, via magic wand tool and Fill function. I then use the pen brush to fill in all the nooks and crannies the magic wand misses. Radhi is mad naked at this stage and looks weeeeeird without her stripes

4.) Time for details. Painted in Radhi's stripes, the streaks of color in Buck's mane, his under-eye bags, the details in their irises, and designed their cutie marks.

5.) I don't often color my lineart, but I like the Disney aesthetic it gives. I do this by clipping a few layers above my lineart layer and coloring sections of lines separately. You can also do this by locking the pixels of your lineart layer and coloring on the same layer, but I personally find that using clipping masks is neater and easier to control.

6.) Last call for details. Added shine on their eyes and on Radhi's bracelets, added Buck's blush and floaty love hearts. Haha what a sappy doofus. Radhi might just find him charming or something

The real question here is, where does the magic come from to create that original sketch? Where you keeping that Harry Potter type shit!?

But seriously, very nice to see the process here and the final product is amazing.Β Β

What kinda tablet do you have lop?
One with a screen you can draw on, or just a regular old wacom tablet? ^-^Β

Can't afford either of those. :> I use a Huion H610 Pro tablet, which I bought off Amazon for about $70. Sturdy, reliable, and affordable, it's served me very well.

may i ask if you have to replace the nibs on the pens for that make tablet? and if so are they expensive? (wacom ones don't seem to last very long)

Lopoddity In reply to Aron-mason [2018-07-28 08:04:39 +0000 UTC]

Really? Hmm. Well I've owned my brand for four years (though I did buy a new one when the old one grew a little faulty) and I've only replaced a nib once in that time. Even the old tablet I thought was faulty started working fine after buying a cheap replacement cable. The package the tablet came in included about 10 replacement nibs and a little storage device to hold them, so I've never needed to buy new nibs.

cheers for the quick reply, i draw for hours everyday so i get through nibs in about two months, ( i seem to be more heavy handed when drawing digitally) you have my interest in these tablets thanks.Β
