Description Well, I actually wanted to keep this for a while, but I decided to make one step at a time. Next will be from the 40k series
The other reason why I don´t like putting this one up, is because I like this one! It has flaws (and not too few I might say) but the next one in the series is very, very bad compared to this. This one actually even motivated me to make a story out of it!
Honestly, how often can someone say to be inspired by his/her own work?
The title "Abschied" means Goodbye/farewell in german, which is so much of an irony, as this one is actually the beginning of something big! At least for me, the takeoff is something to look up to, the single shining star in the darkness of light...
The ship´s name also comes from this picture, but I will tell it only next time

Well, as for the story, this one ends the prologue:
He recieved word of their comming, yet he denied his appearance on the council. Administrational reasons would keep him away, but he would join them later on. Then he will receive his punishment, most likely death. It was hard to keep it all a secret from them but after today they will know; at least most of it. Some things are hard to understand, as the human mind itself. He, who chose a small group of people to go on a journey full of misery and pain, has no control of the outcome. All he could do was pick the elements that would participate so carefully, that their intercourse would lead to the one fate he dreams of. But unpredictable as the weather, there is no way of foreseeing, or knowing what will eventually happen. His faith was nontheless unbroken, as his idea would carry on in the minds of men and even if they fail, there will be another time to try anew.
He always liked this place. High on top of the mountain, far from any city, the serenity of this wonderful planet is unbroken. The wind blows softly across the snowy cliffs, the mountain peaks stay embossed, untouched by their surroundings, overtopped only by the planet in the sky, which mildly merges from the blueish glimmer of the atmosphere and almost threateningly bows over the mountainscape. Even if it could be defined as a twin planet, a double planet to this beautiful one of ours, the people prefer to simply call it 'moon', as it surrounds us, like a protective sibling, yet being clearly smaller. It´s interference is nontheless huge, as the tides go beyond imagination and not few curses have been put onto it. Dawn comes.
He chose this place, because it lies reserved, isolated from the people. Proably the only place where the construction could have taken place unnoticed. It was very hard, but from the moment he discovered the ancient machine, he knew that the road would drag on for a long time and with uncounted difficulties. But he managed to do it. And now, moments prior to its start, he finally felt relieved. This ship would be the answer to the question: why do we fight? And the war itself is nothing but a farce that has gone too far. Even to make it a conflict between races, between humanity and an alien species. Too much sadness had it brought to the people. Too much grieve and death. There was no way out, but to learn the truth. The chosen ones would have to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders and he felt sorry for them.
A start of such a huge vessel, within the mountains on the surface was a hard and stupid thing to do and it would harm this beautiful landscape, but he simply had no choice. With thundering noise the machine started to raise, dust spread over the mountains as if they were mere miniatures and a pillar of smoke rose up to the sky, following a glimmering star, rising up to the sky. The sun arose gently, filling the horizon and the tip of the mountains with a beautiful red color. The moons eclipse glowed like gold and the uprising smoke took the color of gold.
The old man no longer tried to keep the tears, but let them flow openly and with a last wink he said goodbye to the rising ship, which would take its place among the stars before being too small to be seen anymore...

The curtain calls, the actors will enter the stage next time and the wheels of history will slowly start turning...
Hope you like it!

Again, I could go on about trying to describe how stellar this is, however I'll just keep it simple.
The Sky is lovely, presuming its a sunrise form the text. The glow of the ship, and the peaks of the illuminated mountains, as well as the sharp crescent of the distant planet, all spectacular.
I'll be waiting to hear a the rest of this story.

Interesting, your word 'abschied' must be closely related to our own 'avsked'. Always interesting to realize there's a common 'ancestry' in our European languages.

Lovely drawing as well ...

Yes. The "northern" language is quite related to the old germanic languages, as english is related to almost all, celtic, nordic and germanic languages. Many words in nordic are only different by a single charakter from ours

Indeed, I always find it fascinating when I'm able to glean a word or two from a totally foreign language.

Thank you very much! Yeah, I spent a lot of time thinking about the universe itself and I will try to give that away in bits and pieces
