i know this is way fashiony for DA, but i am working on my tight beauty/fashion portfolio...god only knows why, since i don't think i want to be a fashion photographer...i am just addicted to the studio level of control/exhibiting technical perfection in my work. I think fashion magazines have taught me more than any other single source about technique. I highly recommend picking up a copy of surface magazine...the photography is too hot for words.Anyway, this is shot with multiple flashes, lights everywhere, reflectors etc....i wanted a completely even distribution of light on the models skin.

This is a great photo, I only have one suggestion. next time, make her lipstick an icy shade of blue. Not too dark, otherwise it will be lost in the feathers, but something lighter.

Great shot! It's got the kind of lighting that only another photographer can love. Everyone else thinks the pictures always come out like this! 
Nice concept. The blue reinforces Erika's stony gaze. I like the positioning of the hair, too. Good way to add some highlight and depth. Seems like the kind of shot that takes forever to set up. Erika must be one patient model! Great fashion shot!

I'll like to say something far better than "wonderful" or "marvelous", some kind of constructive critic and something like that. I had this pics in my message center for a week because I Wanted to say something about how much I liked it, but still can't find nothing really interesting to say, so....

I love everything about this one, especially how the feathered blue boa frames her face. The blue shades of eye shadow are a great touch to the blue boa border.
I also like how her blond hair peeks out and comes to the front.

What sort of lights were you using?
It looks fantastic. I cannot spot a flaw. The blue with the blue-blue eyes and the blonde hair works *so* very well. You're doing everything right lately, and I'm as jealous as hell

lighting....a macro ring flash [link]
and a 36"x36" soft box (hot light - not flash) and a soft gold reflector....
Ring flashes produce very even lighting.....i have a macro one. They have huge ones that are really popular in fashion photography right now....why? because they look hot as shit.
The softbox and reflector were for ambiant light.
And now...i am obsessed with technical perfection. I am not shooting most of my ideas until i figure out how the hell to light them. I am getting there....slowly, but surely.

I am SOOO lusting after a ring flash
Was yours expensive? I have to be really money conscious right now which sucks as far as equipment goes.
Definetly think you are SOO getting there technically. Especially lately, I'm noticing all of your work looks incredibly professional.

mine was around 300...which was way too expensive for me, but i am not buying any equipment for a long time (food seems to be taking precedence right now).
A big one...the whole kit (flash, stand and power pack....around 2000 bucks or more) and they are not the easiest to use. but you can rent one for about $100 usd a day. i may rent one for my next big shoot (paying client), just so some of my stuff looks that hot.

Erika has a beautiful face (facial features)...I notice her face even though she is surrounded by vivid color. I love the color of her eyes and their position (one seems closer to corner of her eye)...which draws you to take an even closer look. The blue eyeshadow is a nice effect. I like the way that you allowed her hair to show a little...also the way it sort of frames her face. I love the rose color of her lipstick and the rose colored hue of her complexion. The texture of her hair against the texture of the feathers is nice...to me...if you had not allowed her hair to show...her face might have been overwhelmed by the blue feathers.
