my pet beetle helpin out with some photography.this pic has been in my head for a while and buggin the hell outta me...if ya know what i mean.
2 strobes..one w/soft light reflector, one w/umbrella for fill.

THIS... is an amzing shot! it has ambience, clarification ( I wonder what that means here..), it stirrs the feelings..... in my oppinion you will get a lot of honnours with this one...

I love the idea, but there is too much fill light, we loose alot of details and perception of 3 dimentions. It also makes the beetle look like a photo manip, probably because we don't see the shadows, we don't have any reference to position it in the space so it looks like it's "pasted" there. The colours are of course fabulous, I think the framing should be either closer or wider because the left eyelash and the lower beetle feet just touches the frame. It's better if you cut off some or leave it in.

I love the colors, composition, contrast, focus, and framing. Sorry for not giving a more critical critique, but Iβm so impressed that I really canβt find anything big or small to bitch about here.

i have a really good light kit that i use with a variety of tools like a beauty dish to attain certain effects. this was also shot with a really nice 90mm macro lens that is quite sharp. the pic is actually a composite....one a little overexposed for the paleness of the skin, then one exposed 1/2 stop under to get the richness of the beetle, makeup and eyes. combined in PS, then levels, curves and selective saturation.
