Description Kefka Palazzo's final boss form (aka "Tower of Kefka") from Final Fantasy VI

"Hee-hee... Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison! Uwee-hee-hee!" ~ Kefka Palazzo, FFVI

Holy... shit... finally... finished... Β
For all those who were unaware, the Final fantasy series happen to have their 30th anniversary this year, and as a huge FF nut that I am, I certainly wasn't gonna let it pass without a proper tribute. There was much brainstorming about whom or what should I draw as said tribute, since there are so many amazing games in the series and so much once could do with them. But then it hit me, Kefka's final form was borh amazingly designed and really fitting my style, the only problem was how big it was, menaing I will have to work extra hard on it ... so then one part of me was super hyped, another part was anxious as hell about the amount of work it will take, and yet another part was pondering just how to make this work... so after some more brainstorming, this was the final result, a 3-part piece on 3 A4 sheets, combined together by the awesome to whom I'm super thankful for the help.

In the end, it took roughly 104 hours in total from the very first lines of the first sketch up to the last touch ups on the last piece after scanning. This is now the biggest and most complex work I've made so far, as such I would be extremely thankful if you could spare a few minutes to tell me what you think, I really, REALLY ask you for some feedback, please.

Anyways, I guess there's not much reason to go on a wall-of-text rant about the Clown Prince of FF Crime XD we all know him well and we all know how awesome he is. I really hope I managed to capture that amazing insanity in my picture ^^

Huh, so this is a boss from the FFVI game? I haven't played that one. xD;;; Sorry. But this totem boss art looks pretty epic, I might say!
Wow, you timed your piece? 104 hours straight? Dang. That's much longer than my pieces that I work on. You have patience!
There are a lot of lines in this. I'm guessing you didn't use a white gel pen over the black or anything so I can see how this can take a bit longer to do.
Just Wow. It is big. What size paper did you use for this?

First of all, thank you for your time, your opinion means a lot to me ^^

Well, it's not as much a "totem" as more of a "world tree" kind of thing. The three sections are meant to symbolise hell, earth/humanity and heaven. Square likes all kinds of religious and mythological symbolism ;3

And I wasn't sitting 104 hours straight with this one piece, I did a few shorter drawing sessions and timed those. That, and you are simply better at your work, especially since your artwork takes more work to do, and yet you do it faster |3
And no, I just draw the tribal markings over the sketch with a fineliner/fine-tip and then "color" it, the white lines are a bit thicker to divide the more important pieces, so the whole thing doesn't blur together making it unclear. And given the size and details on this one, had to be extra careful |D
As for the paper, it's on 3 A4 sheets, combined into one pic after scanning.

There was no doubt that the final battle with Kefka was among the most unique and memorable final boss battles in the entire series. It was like Square wanted to end the series with a bang and boy did they ever. But as VII proved; they were far from over when it came to ending the series. XD
Some argue that the series fell apart after VI. I for one disagree; but I do agree that VI was one of the series' best installments and Kefka among their best villains and final boss battles. I appreciate the darkness of how you depict this fight as well as how sharp and pointy you make Kefka's nose. Makes him appear more sinister than he already is!

Indeed, Kefka's boss form was monumental both in design and gameplay. To be fair, as much as I love VII, I was really disappointed by the final boss. And I'm not talking about Safer Sephiroth, but about the one-on-one between Sephy and Cloud.
Now it's common knowledge that it's more of an interactive cutscene than an actual fight, but back when VII was first released, everyone was hyped about a potential one-on-one duel, which would require a lot of strategy to beat, and were equally disappointed when the fight finished itself. And it's not even something we could have expected, I mean, Squares previous RPGs, FFVI and Chrono Trigger, both had additional final final boss fights (even 2 in CT's case), so if anything, we were expecting a bonus final final boss instead...

Moving on, what can I say, you can never please everyone. Some overglorify VII, some hate it with a passion, and same goes for VI, some overglorify it, and some find it FF's lowest point. I personally find VI to be one of the best FF games (along with IX and Tactics), but I have fond memories of almost all other FF games. But yeah, I gotta agree, Kefka sure was a badass villain (maybe except the poison part, I really hated him for that).
As for the darkness, well, as you probably noticed, that's a regular theme in my works XD so when drawing something already as dark and chaotic as Kefka's final form, the darkness just gets multiplied XD
Though yeah, Kefka's nose has gotten a bit more cartoonish, sometimes certain parts get a bit more exaggerated on my drawings, though glad to hear that doesn't look off here XD

Oh my, that is a big piece of art! I've been examining it for a few minutes now but I still keep finding more and more details. Β I'm not very familiar with this character, but his final form with wicked men, curvy women and fierce beasts is almost like made for your style. It's a great tribute to the FF series, indeed!

Thank you for the nice comment ^^

As for the character, his final form has more deeper meaning than most people (even fans) think, for one, the three parts of the "tower" are not just random designs made to look cool, from top to bottom they symbolise hell, purgatory and heaven, also, all those people, beasts, demons, machines and whatnot, that the "tower" is composed of, are all "parts" of Kefka's shattered, twisted mind in one way or another. Both of which are pictured nicely as all the figures share some similarities with the original Kefka to signify this, but also have features to fit the whole hell/purgatory/heaven at the same time, making for one breathtaking design >3

And yeah, dark and detailed stuff like this fits my style all too well, though the magnitude of it is really intimidating, and those 104 hours didn't come out of nowhere, I actually counted the time I spent on this |3

Oh, that's so cool! The developers put nice symbolism in that design! The original sprite is breathtaking too. *,*

Yes, the designs in FF were always awesome, even as 8 or 16 bit sprites, they were really setting the bar high ^^
And likewise, they always put a lot of symbolism into it, making their designs that much better.
That's why it got me so inspired, for such a big project ^^

Oh crap, it's been so long... but I still remember where that quote came from.

This is so cool! The size of this pic is overwhelming. Must have been hell to work on this thing. Size aside, the amount of detail is staggering. Doubly so with your style. Anyway, congrats on finishing this man! You did awesome!

Yeah, it has indeed been long since I saw you here... erm, I mean... yeah, good ol' times when people actually thought Kefka is awesome because of FFVI and not Diossidia...

But yeah, the pic is massive, like I said, it's the biggest piece I've done so far, but since FFVI is one of my top favourite FFs, and Kefka is among my most favourite FF charas, I just had to draw this. Truth be told, as much as I was scared to attempt something this big, a part of me was really hyped to work on this, the thrill of the challenge I guess XD

AWESOME work once again man!!!

Plus, it's not like I "added" anything, merely did my best to include every detail of the pictured character.

Hehe, yeah, it is hand down the biggest I've done, even the Sonic pic wasn't as challenging |3 but I'd say it was really worth it ^^
The sad part is that I still have 2 more big tribute pics I wanna do |D not as big as this one, but still ^^

You have no idea |D
I actually fell ill in the meantime, but was super determined to finish this... used up all HP in the end and was completely knocked out when I finished
And I actually counted the time, so the 104 is not an exaggeration. But I gotta say I really love the end effect, so I guess it was worth it ^^
