Description
I am finally back. This picture startet as a simple sketch and took ages to finish. Hopefully I will be able to finish my next works faster than this one.
My last picture inspired me to do another beach picture. The right thing to get his mind off this uncomfortable autumn. This time with Alexandra and her armless friend. Both are going to have fun times at the local beach. Unlike the girl in my last picture the pairΒ knows where to find a ramp down to the sand. But even with this, a beach is quite difficult to access for wheelchair users. The first picure was originally intended to show how Alex gets down from the wooden beach way to the sand. But then I realized that going down a simple step with a wheelchair shouldn't be a difficult task for a long time wheelchair user. Lets just say the the landing stage is a bit higher than a single step and Alex uses her friend as a means for stability going down the landing stage.)
As sand tends to be difficult terrain to manouver in a wheelchair, Alexandra just crawls on her butt. Without arms I imagine it to be kind of impossible to push the wheelchair both forward and down at the same time to pull up the front wheels of the chair. (Later I had the idea that armless girl could pull the chair with a string. Like a horse a chariot. But that would look ridiculous and propably wouldn't even work on sand.) Anyway: In return for the help Alexandra can help her friend undress before they go into shallow water to play ball. They had to find a compromise. In Water armless girl can not throw the ball and Alex is a lame duck in the sand. I think it is easier to quickly glide to the ball for Alex with a little bit of water. In deep water Alexandra would need her arms to swim while her friend couldn't reach the ball quickly enough for a headbutt. It is interesting to imagine how this unusual pair comes up with solutions which takes the needs of both of them into account.
Ps: Armless girl needs a name. Any suggestions?

Great picture set. I like the amputee's fit appearance. The scar in the second panel is a nice detail. Are the lines in the third panel meant to signify a border between toned abdominal muscles above the belly button and the paralyzed muscles below it?
If I would change anything, I'd make Alexandra's legs quite a bit more atrophied, maybe giving the shape of the thighs some thought, but I believe you made a conscious decision about the design earlier.

Thanks, The lines in the second panel are there to show where her belly is a little squished because she is sitting.
About her legs, your are right. She is supposed to be a curvy woman with a little bit of meat on her bones despite being quite sporty. As far as my experience goes with paraplegics, even if the legs have no muscles, the legs of heavier woman tend to look "normal" because of the remaining fat. I am still figuring out how "fat" I should draw her belly to make the rest of her appereance believeable.

You are the first. But I happen to really find those names which are just names of things we use everyday quite wierd. (Hope, summer etc.) It is probably just a cultural thing. Do you perhaps have another idea?

Perhaps something along the lines of Michelle? I'd pick a more 'Irish' name but I'm not sure anyone could pronounce it
