I start studying the blueprints for the physical robots as well... Mostly to see if the hopefully-newly-compliant 2B does have the proper holes.

I spend just a little more time than I should examining the blueprints... When I finally tear my eyes away, I take a look at the code for the 9S units, wondering if I can copy whatever gives them their personalities into the other units.

They seem to have a small self made protocol to feed them small bits of personality traits. It seems to be only modeled for them, but you're certain you could tweak it

I copy it and start tinkering, hoping maybe in a day or two I'll be able to copy it more widely.
