I dont think you should be saying cops can prevent jack shit when theres a shooting happening in this stupid country on the daily, but besides that
the history cops have with the lgbt community ESPECIALLY with lgbt people of color and trans feminine people has been nothing but horrifying, historically and to this day . I understand your safety concerns, and the police who go to these things may put on a happy face and act all progressive and "the police are your friend" shit thats pushed on us, the the truth is? cops are the ones who kill and beat and abuse us but fucking get away with it. They get to prance around us at OUR parades and gatherings with their stupid guns and tasers and handcuffs and shit while smiling and wearing rainbow flower crowns for a few days out of the year while upholding a system that has historically abused and killed the exact thing they're claiming to protect. The first pride parade was an anti-cop riot for a reason.
I don't want cops at pride the same way I dont want them at any other gathering, march, riot, whatever for any other oppressed or marginalized group. Because a lot of the time theyre the ones oppressing us and getting away with it. And getting a ton of them around us all at once? Yeah not smart. They're the reason so many of us don't feel comfortable going to pride . And I know everyone gets up and arms about "not all cops!!!!!" But they're in the same system being bossed around by the same people. they're friends and 'cop buddies' with the same fucks who don't care about us at best and are the same as the homophobes/transphobes youre worried about at worst, but on a much much bigger scale.
so yeah fuck cops . I understand your concern and I've had similar ones before but cops are not the solution . the system oppression and violence they enforce on us doesnt make me want to bring them into my space with open arms. maybe they should stop shooting gay and trans people and also start caring when we are murdered or attacked instead of sweeping it under the rug like i see every day . maybe they should stop being power crazed meat heads
