Description when I saw this from the Rainmeter group today (a screenshot of Rainmeter running in FreeBSD), which made me wonder if it is possible to run Rainmeter in Linux as well

after some google work I've found out the development build of Wine have nice support of it, and here's the proof~

I'm amazed, but glad people can do this... Does RM exist for non PC platforms? If not, how come I sometimes see what look like phone skins on here?

hum... most of the ideas of the widget UI design are just porting across different platforms, that's why most of them look familiar~

if we're talking about Rainmeter running on a non-x86 machine, Windows RT might be the most similar environment, and look like someone has already take a shot at XDA forum , but I don't own this device so I could not test it myself.

well... I think porting from Windows x86 to RT is not that straight forward, it's a similar story like Android x86 and ARM. anyway, since someone has already took the first step, by time this would become more like a complete project.

So people with RM on their phones use "hacks" to make this work?

from the concept point of view, widget just look alike across different platform and device, because they share the same purpose.

but, for those identical ones, they're ported with re-written code with some minor modification of the artwork.

yep~ conky is more generic in Linux.
although it lack of some flexible features and out of date, I think it's still a better choice in this scenario.
after some more testing, almost half of the Rainmeter skins in my collection doesn't work out of box, and none of the CPU meter works...

oh well... I guess we can still can say the Rainmeter is running under (maybe not gold but) a solid silver state under Wine
