very vey highly compressed .gif's
since they are pixelated anyways its not like they lose that much quality so you can compress them pretty small. if you use imageready you can just "optimize to file size" for whatever the limit is here. I'm not sure for other programs.

A avatar without that blue background can be literally doubled in frame limits.

That's just what I discovered a few days ago, I now use just paint and imageready for my avatars. also I avoid using backgrounds *points to my avatar which is only 2.8 KB*
