Description
of the rest of your life...or Untitled
it doesn't seem to really want a name, so I'll let it be
this is the first real painting that I've finished since leaving school, I'm incredibly proud of myself for making that leap. In a way this painting really is the first day of the rest of my life. It took about 4 months to complete.
oil on canvas
12"x24"
and the next one has already been started
1/8/10 edit: apparently the canvas itself is not square, thats what I get for scavenging materials. either way, I've got a slightly better photo that shows the color better now.
2013 edit: this painting took some pretty heavy smoke damage, so far I haven't been successful at cleaning the surface of soot

Beautiful! I love it - the geometry, the contrasting colours, the concept...

Absolutely beautiful I love your use of color and how the patterns overlay into one another

Now that I see it in more detail, I love it even moar! It almost looks like parts of the painting are being ripped off to reveal different layers/depths... Shows you have excellent skill with color: in this case knowing that brighter reds/yellows always appear to overlap darker, more blue-ish tones.

thank you for the closer look and thoughtful comment! I had a lot of fun playing with the edges in this one, picking out where to let the pattern fall away and become something else. I'm starting another similar painting now that is a self portrait. Color is something that I've studied and enjoy using, pushing and pulling layers with color.

It's neat to have seen this one develop from your WIP posts. Love how it turned out. As the others said, the colors are fantastic, and you already know how your geometric patterns make me happy!

most of the more intricate ones develop similarly... Its my running joke that there has to be about 4 different paintings under the finished product and I have to ruin it and hate it at least once.
