Description
First...?bah really I don't care, I just couldn't resist making this cutie ahah.
She's available in my shop! plushiluv.storenvy.com/ aaand she's gone already o__O
Vulpix measures 9 inches tall and about 12 inches long from nose to the tip of their tails. They're made out of minky and features a machine embroidered face with a little plastic nose. I really wanted to get that grey-purple tone in their eyes that made them look crystal-like, but I think that if I remake her I'll stick to all blue.

out of curiosity, how long did it take you to figure out the pattern? i always have trouble with the center piece to make the plush more 3d.

I've made so many patterns in this style over the years I don't even think about it anymore ahah. Make sure to make the belly wide enough and always double check how it measures up against your body's side pieces.

how many tries or fails have u done to get the right pattern?

MagnaStorm In reply to LiyuConberma [2017-01-13 12:47:53 +0000 UTC]
it typically takes me 3 attempts before I'm happy with a pattern

So in those 3 attempts, do u mean u sort of wasted some fabric during the experiments?

MagnaStorm In reply to LiyuConberma [2017-01-16 17:24:25 +0000 UTC]
yup, at least 3 completely scrapped attempts. I usually use leftovers and scraps from other projects to make my prototypes.

Yikes, and what about those bigger projects? How do you make sure those patterns are just right? I'm asking because I wanna hear experience from the others.
Also, when I look at your plush, I would try to "dissect" it with my mind and imagine how the patterns look like (especially the head, which for some reasons, it's hard to make the shape that I want) XP

for really huge projects (like 3ft+) I'll usually draft the pattern at a smaller size then scale it up with photoshop and ms paint. I also didn't start making huge plushies until I was pretty comfortable with drafting ahah. I also buy some stuff called mycrochenille (soft n comfy in the US I think?) on sale at under $10 a meter in case I run out of minky scraps for prototypes. It's a little different from minky, but not enough to make a drastic difference for pattern drafting.
Most my heads are modified spheres, unless it's a really wacky shape

Well, any tip on making the head pattern? Like the back of the head, how do you measure the wideness of the pattern, or the size of it to get the shape and ratio you want in real life (do you know what I'm talking about here )?
Cause I've seen one artist here came up with a freaking geometry that gave me headache that I don't know how to do that kind of math.
Sorry if this bothers you, but I am really curious about this kind of technique, and if I learn this, I would make a better plushie in the future.

Thing is pattern making does involve a certain level of math, especially when it comes to rounded shapes ahah
For example, to make a 4 piece sphere you can use length=width x 2 to figure out the measurements of your pattern piece. So if your piece is 2 inches wide it would need to be 4 inches tall. Cut out 4 pieces with this, assemble them and you get a working sphere every time. Once you have a working sphere you can modify it to suit your needs.

ahhhhh....got it. Thanks ^^
i actually have one more question. at the front head, i notice a gap on the top, and sometimes bottom, but i know in pattern it looks....distorted. how do you draw it?

$300? I'd most likely be better of waiting for Nintendo to release an official plush of it.
That said, I love how this thing looks, and I want one myself.

I've been wanting a plushie of Alola Vulpix (Vulpix is my favorite Pokemon, I squealed for like a solid hour when I saw this new form ), and is it true you're making more? If so... I don't suppose you'll tell us when you've got more available? I'm definitely watching you, though, these are adorable <3

Vulpix is gonna be part of my shop rotation. Every month I have a different set of plushies available for pre-orders, unfortunately I just did Vulpix this month, so it'll be another couple months before she's available again ):
