Hannah had spent the last year training like mad, on not just her youngsters but also on her beloved Artemis. The mare was such a joy, with so much talent and energy. She had not taken her to a show in a while, but when Heatherwood opened it's doors for the Spring Fling, they decided to go. As always the mare trucked like a dream. They were acompanied to the grounds by their friend James Campbell-Foxe and his horse Suntracer , who were there for moral support, and to expose the young stallion to a show experience without any pressure. Artemis had no troubles, Suntracer was a perfect gentleman, without the usual agression or desperation most stallions gave off. They just trucked peacefully and kept eachother company on the grounds.
The course looked big. Hannah walked it with James, peeking over the large fences and taking big steps to feel out the strides. She had not competed at this grade for a long time, having instead been taking the youngsters over just meter courses at the last five shows. She could feel some anxiety in her chest, but she pushed it away. Artemis would take care of her.
When they returned to the horses they both whinnied. Artemis had been tacked up by the grooms and looked splendid in her plaits and shiny tack. James gave Hannah a leg up and sent them on their way to the warmup, wishing them the very best of luck.
