Description Oh look, a platformer thing a Maki has made!

An actual playable game scripted in Processing with parallax scrolling and pixel art made using Pixen! (great little program btw)

Uhhh, I have to fix the interface stuff and take debug off.
This is my first time really programming anything, the project is to take barebone code (jump collision, screens, platforms) and then mod that bitch up like a 96' Civic with ricer spoliers so glorious they make F-16's want to slaughter eachother for mating rights.

--------

Game Premise:
Take on the role of a moon bunny who has to collect all the stars that have fallen from the sky thanks to mysterious planetquakes making a mess of the galaxy. Avoid the icicle showers while on the iceblocks using left and right to slide, jump and hold the left/right key for sped up sliding and air jumps.

So, once you move, there is no stopping or idle standing.
The screen will shake to announce each wave of icicles arriving as they gradually become faster and more numerous.
If you get hit by an icicle or fall off a platform: you dead.

---------

When it's finished I hope to make a little video or post up better screenshots.
Also I'd really like to port it for Android mobile and have it use screen tilt to control the functions.

Btw I'm also taking a traditional animation class so I'll try remember to post up my amazing balls.
Gifs...of balls.

Something about this game gives me that classic Taito vibe, and I like that.

I must see more of this Moon Bunny. I hope to play as him/her in the Smash Brothers game for the next Nintendo console.

Better watch out for those bouncing ball class assignments. They'll haunt your dreams. Also, this looks pretty boss. Been thinking about sticking my toes into game design lately.

Woahh!
First off, any story involving the moon or stars, and interacting with them in some way is always a plus with me!
This looks and sounds like a sweet classic arcade game from the good old days. it sounds like fun.
Also I gotta say, that icicle on the screenshot- nngh- So Tenchi Muyo, I love it.
Also great job on the bunny's simple but memorable design! Though it's blue color sort of blends in to the mountains in the background a bit, just as a bit of criticism. Keep up the hard work, Maki!

Ahh, thank you!
I was wondering about the colors being too close, I really appreciate the feedback..!

The one thing I regret is not knowing how to handle making the glow from the moon.
If you zoom in you can see I was about to draw a halo around it but chickened out.
I did try to google up some pixel art ref but I didn't see anything good, you have any advice?
I'm guessing this is one of those times to use dithering.

You're welcome! Feedback is good!
Ohh I can totally see where you started it there! And yeah, I think dithering would do really well in this situation, actually. I think I know a ref off the top of my head that might help, too!

try studying how they did the moon glow in this, maybe? It's against a black sky though, so it's obviously going to be a lot more contrast-y.
Looking closely, it seems they didn't use dithering and it still looks good. but for something as subtle as the color of your moon/sky I'd say maybe dithering is the way to go here.
