Description
The Kaiserstuhl (Germany) rising from the fog covering the Upper Rhine Valley on that day.
On the horizon the Vosges mountains (France) are visible above the fog.

I love to hike there, it is a very varied place - from vineyards to nature preserves with rare flowers and insects, this extinct volcano offers many chances for photography.

The central rise in this photo is called the Badberg and is pretty much the center of the Kaiserstuhl, and one of the places where you can see active proof of the volcanic history - it has a warm spring, next to an old quarry.
Other, older proof comes from the rocks that can be found here, from phonolite to carbonatite (which is very interesting as there are only very few carbonatite volcanoes - both active or extinct - worldwide) and two volcanic rocks that are named after locations on the Kaiserstuhl - the limburgite (after the castle ruin Limburg above the village Sasbach) and the mondhaldeite after the Mondhalde (part of the village of Oberbergen, that lies at the far end of the Badberg)
