You've made amazing progress. I remember your oekaki's back in the early 2000s back from wherever the heck they came from. God that was a long time ago. D: If you didn't post them I wouldn't even have thought it was you. You're work is amazing now. Congrats!

You and me both, it was funny I had to stop and think about where I saw your work before and then I couldn't remember because it's been so long.

Great improvement! I love how your work got so much sleeker and tidier as the years went on. That seems to be a major issue a lot have when starting out with digital art; it's either too fuzzy or...yikes.
I have to admit, the second one on the very top had me in tears.

The jump between 2006 and 2007 is pretty remarkable. I mean, you improved each you, but that particular jump is pretty noticeable.Good stuff, I look forward to what you can bring this year.

LOVE!!
I totally remember the first time I saw you drawing at school, with markers. You were sitting at 'our groups normal wall' - right by the theatre (you know some lame grade 8's have our wall now?! xD).
I was in COMPLETE AWE! I had thought, at first glance, that you'd printed something off to colour - and then right before you started, I saw you fixing something - ERASING PENCIL?! WTF?! @_@
And saw all the technique you used with the marker! o.O (I think it was an almost all blue turu drawing?)
Came back 15 minutes later and you were half ways done, and it looking fucking incredible!!
You blew my mind that day Mandy. You blew it! xD

I went to scraps - tried to find it the old-fashioned way, got lazy, and filtered them by 'traditional art'. Because I'm awesome. xD
AND YUS! That's how I first met you - you were hitting Nathan up for the 50 cents you were short, and you said 'Common man! You need to FUND MY COFFEE ADDICTION!'
And I went 'That's a damn good cause' and pulled out 50 cents, and you said you'd love me forever! B) Good time. *rofl*

Haha, thing is, I was watching you back in 04-05, but I weeded out a lot stuff on DA, and, sorry, you didn't make the cut. Then a couple of months ago I saw some of your news stuff and I was like "Whoa!" Show you that you can't turn your back on people, they tend to surprise you.

Hahaha! I'm not surprised XD I wouldn't have added me to my watch list even two years ago.
I still don't know that I would now, even :9 but that's hard to tell for sure!
I'm really, really glad you like what my work has come to, though :] that's quite uplifting!

It's great fun to look at stuff like this from people and see how they've improved over the years. 8D And BOY, have you improved! A lot! Thank goodness! X3
I don't think I could really do this... it's enjoyable to see how I've improved, but horrible to look back at old stuff of mine. D8

Manamaraya In reply to Meg-James [2010-01-01 05:09:39 +0000 UTC]
I think it's really encouraging to look back at old stuff and know how much you've improved since then--and exciting to think how much more you'll improve over the next number of years to come!
It's a fabulous thing to be able to look back at your old stuff and cringe. It's a good sign.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Meg-James In reply to Manamaraya [2010-01-01 06:34:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but the cringing for me comes with a "OH HELL I must burn this before anyone sees~!" mentality. And, indeed, I've discarded many concept sketches that way. Sketches that I looked for later. >:I
One of the most entertaining (in my opinion) ways of observing art change over time is looking at artists who do comics, and going back through their comic archives from the beginning. I notice that in some of the comics I read-- especially ones that have been around a long time! The change is drastic!
It's so encouraging to see that some artists put a lot of effort into improvement. 8D

The trend I'm seeing is actually "Less is more". Color usage is more consistent and less glowy.

Manamaraya In reply to doomrater [2010-01-01 05:06:38 +0000 UTC]
This really is the truth, isn't it?
I think it gets to a point where you don't need gimmicky "SHINY DESU @w@" coloring to hide/cover up all the errors within the actual drawing.
