I didn't say it before because I wasn't sure of keeping the idea or not, but my first idea was to make Wakana's dad dead. Nothing weird, just an illness.
She was 12 by the time he died. She admired him so a lot of things from her personality have something to do with him, in a way or another.
So here's a picture of the present where she falls asleep on the piano, thinking of him, and he takes care of her even if he's not around anymore
