Idk, personally to me, I just feel like all innocent characters should at least mature up a little bit if they were to face the cruelty/evil of the world XP
I have never written about young main protagonists sooo I don't have that much experiences with, or knowledge about them :v
But I do know that facing the painful reality = not as innocent anymore.

I definitely get what you mean and it's definitely the believable adult route I should be shooting for.
I have no idea how I'll handle it but I definitely don't want Aesk to float through the story unscathed or ineffected. That won't happen.

Maybe try getting some inspirations by watching some shows or reading some books/comics with a similar protagonist as Aesk?

That's a good idea. Ithe only thing is I currently don't see many stories with heroes quite as young as Aesk is. In the comic his age range is 5-7.

So he isn't edgy but spiky... (starts slowly baking away because of small fear of needles)
He does look edgy but less for the fact that he is black and more because he has red eyes (in addition to being black).
You have definitely made progress with SAI. Which are you having more, fun or problems?

Those are probably the reasons why others usually think that he is. But well... Demian couldn't decide his fur or eyes color when he was born XP
