Robert Heinlein once wrote a story under the title, "The Roads Must Roll" in which he described a highway running roughly along the old Rr 66.  It was a multi lane and, perhaps, multi tiered roadbed which moved, carrying everyone along with it at various speeds.  The story dealt with a strike called by the bad working men of the road, although the naughty strike was thwarted by the hero of the story.  Heinlein only had sympathy for the rich.   Your elegant image reminded me of the road.
