Description
I just couldn’t resist creating an exterior view to follow my previous ‘Flight of the C.A.T.’ illustration.
‘Flight of the C.A.T 2.’ is a bit of a visual pun; as a long-time admirer of the superb SF Illustrator Chris Foss, and SF author Iain M. Banks, I have tried to combine two elements of these greats.
Those ‘in the know’ will get this…
The image is based on a scene from the excellent Iain M. Banks Sci-Fi novel ‘Consider Phlebas’ :
Hurriedly attempting to leave ‘Vavatch Orbital’ – a million mile diameter, landscaped, free-floating space habitat – ‘Kraiklyn’s Free Company’, aboard their ship the ‘Clear Air Turbulence‘, or ‘C.A.T.’,
are hastily abandoning the humungous GSV (General Systems Vehicle) ‘The Ends of Invention‘, where they had stopped off to conduct some nefarious activity. Alas, things did not quite go to plan…
A larger, zoomable version can be viewed on ArtStation at: www.artstation.com/artwork/Ya2… or on my site at: mjb-graphics.co.uk/flight-of-t…

Saw your picture on Alois' feature. Apart from the pun, it's really a cool design.

I'm really digging your stuff! I can definitely see the Chris Foss influence, which is awesome. I see a lot of stuff here on DA that I like, but yours honestly hit me harder than most.

Thanks - I've always felt that future tech should have a slightly shabby, 'used and lived-in' look to it,
rather than that 'new and shiny' thing. Glad you like it!

You're welcome! I remember seeing my eldest brother buy sci-fi novels with Chris Foss covers when I was a kid and I
really got into his art in my early teens - seeing it re-imagined in 3D is just amazing! Great work and interpretation, so
faithful (fossful?? ) to the original

I'll probably do a 'model' view of the C.A.T. next, and then onto pastures new I reckon.... Glad you like it, thanks!

it is. I've never played it but I have watched various gameplay series and their passion for it is infectious.
