Well, this is the first thing I came up with. I was trying to isolate the ship and probe, but could not figure out how to do it, so I had to leave the planet surface there. The lighting helps, though I couldn't seem to get it quite right either.
Cheers!

Really beautiful, I like a lot the subtlety of the light and the metallic look, finely done

Thanks Emm'!
I was trying for a soft, slightly smoky look to the light here.
Very happy with the final result.

This is quite the structure...and good on ya for including the formulas, it is actually more fun than just loading parameters and going from there.

Thanks Fred!
Yeah, I've seen a shedload of very 'samey' 3D fractal images on dA recently, and recognised the image that the params were taken from in most cases.
The point - to me anyway - with fractals is that with the
variety of formulas available now, there's a virtually infinite number of
possible permutations for creativity, so why just 'copy'n'tweak'?
I guess it is an aid to learning, but just so long as it doesn't become a habit! - "Oh....was I ranting?"..

I couldn't agree more, the tubers from Spudsville are getting far too abundant for my taste, but they are a part of Hal's awesome tutorial so it's cool for the 'rookies'...I like to fractal on my own for the most part, or at least alter parameters as much as possible.
As Mr. Mandelbrot so eloquently said:
"Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end."
Okay, my own rant is now complete.

Love the realistic lighting and the subtle glow (or positional lights?, yes it is, isn't it? )
Interesting junction too!

Thanks Johan!
Spot on; 2 positional lights in the far BG,
and added BulBox to the mix to get these
more rounded forms....

OK, use the positional more often Mark, much more effect!
Great work!
