Oh wow, look how smooth! Even though the crowning touch is the hair for me, this is masterful use of charcoal for the darker to darkest areas.

Thanks, I used the carbon for the darks here. As this is my first attempt with these media I used my charcoal for building up light tones which I built upon with carbon. I will try the charcoals for darks at a later date for sure and look forward to it.

Absoloutly brilliant. I love the tones and the shading. What do you smooth it out with? Brushes?

Thanks, just loose cotton wool used for undercoat layering. The last layers were rendered without any blending.

It looked brilliant. I've only ever used cotton buds for smaller bits but never thought of using a bigger bit. I will give that a try
