Description
::[Ubuntu Studio - Linux Multimedia Machine]::Recently I have been digging more and more into the Open Source operating systems and software available and after a lot of thought and homework I found a version of Linux that is specifically for media professionals and decided to pop in a spare 40GB hard drive and put a fresh install on it to try it out.
For those of you who are not aware what Linux is, Linux is an Open Source (i.e. free) operating system that is developed by corporations, colleges and institutes, private companies and individuals all over the world. There are hundreds of different distributions available (think Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP and Vista - all are Windows but different distributions and each with their own pros and cons). A bit of a sloppy comparison but the best i can do. Anyhoo not only is the OS free, but much of the software is the same and free for download. I have a couple dozen programs qued up for a massive download tonight and will start working on learning The Gimp (Linux graphics editing tool) and work on some artwork. Here is one desktop shot I will be submitting - I did not make the background but thought it fitting for a Media Workstation.

Wow!
Where did you get the background? Did it come with Ubuntu Studio?
