Dr Zarkov's Rocket Ship from the 1930's serial' Flash Gordon'. Flash Gordon (superbly brought to life by the fabulous Larry 'Buster' Crabbe), Dale Arden and Dr Zarkov travelled via 'Rocket ship' to the planet Mongo - home of the evil Ming The Merciless (memorably played by Charles Middleton).
These were low budget 12 chapter serials, with rudimenatry special effects (even by 1930s standards) with the now iconic exhausts dribbling sparks.
Superb stuff.
I would love to know who designed this ship!
