Commissioned animals. The best part about flying through space is finding all the things that are so very similar to Earth. Like these, they're just like tigers back home. Except that they fly...and have opposable thumbs...and are poisonous... and are armored against most small arms fire......and have primate(or higher) intelligence....going home....

It's still of course in the commissioners hands to make the final call, but there are some sex delineations.
Talk of egg laying led me into common practice in out biosphere for egg laying females to have more mass to house the machinery. While the intelligent nature described, social interactions, multiple means of showing off, and a number of "flashier" natural features lead me to think of the males putting on a little more show for mating rights than outright fury.
