In my personal opinion, I feel like Ursa had to have left in order for Zuko's character development to have happened. Otherwise, he would have just stayed as an immature, co-dependent momma's boy throughout his whole life. (Please reply if you have no fucking idea about what I just typed.)

I think so to, while Ozia forced Ursa to leave Zuko and Azula behind, Zuko at the time was dependent on Ursa for love and was trying to prove his worth to Ozai when he had no idea his father was an absolute monster. Besides if Ursa did take the kids he would kill them all, and Zuko would be demanding Ursa that he be with his father to prove his worth to him, hell he might have become worse than Azula and be willing to do worse for Ozai's approval.
Staying with Ozai after he gave Zuko his scar, mistreated him and having Iroh as a father figure made Zuko see the light and he now see's his father as a pathetic man who never deserved anything, and he never deserved Zuko's appreciation and that made Zuko determined to be a better man, Firelord, husband and father, and Iroh and Ursa made him see what real love is and Ozai made Zuko see what cruelty and false love was.
And that goes for Azula's development as well, if Ursa never left Azula would continue to be bratty, even though she was in the series, she would still not listen to Ursa. When Ursa left, Azula held Ty Lee and Mai close as well as her father, and when Mai and Ty lee stood up to her and Ozai revealed Azula was not that important, that crushed her and made her realize Ursa was the only one who truly loved her and she scolded her to make her see the error of her ways, and because Azula didn't listen to her mother and continued bullying people she lost her friends and was a puppet for Ozai, and her hallucination of Ursa made her see what she lost in the name of power.

For her not to show emotion of her mothers disappearance, I feel she knew she would be banished. Azula really has no love for anyone.

Yeah, I admit she just need love, but when she was young she got love from her mother. Ok, Zuko unambiguously got more than Azula but not she is the only sister or brother in the world who is neglected by the parents... :S

Well, no, I know all of that... xD But she was too smart, too messed up and all that. I don't even know what happened to make her go insane from the start. It just kind of... happened. She didn't respect Ursa, probably because Ursa was not a firebender. Not sure though.
