Most would not. How Blind boy survived up until he came to sleepy burrows is beyond me. He does all the mad wombat things , but runs into things obviously. However if nothing is moved around in his enclosure he will avoid obstacles such as tree stumps, enclosure posts etc. He relies heavily on hearing and smell and these would be more sensitive due to his blindness. He can still be a cranky wombat when he wants to. He chances out in the bush would be minimal even at this size and age. Wombat attack would be his biggest issue. Make no mistake these guys are one of the toughest animals on earth but if wounds are present and they cant get them covered, usually with dirt or mud , infection then becomes their enemy. Β Obviously summer would be worse due to flies. Β Β Β Β

Awwww it just makes you feel so bad when you think of all the terrible dangers out there it is very frightening. I wish that there was someplace someone would keep this poor thing being blind and all. I think that his chances Β of survival out there are probably very slim. I had no idea that these animals were this tough as you say but I sure hope that he will be okay it just makes me feel like picking up this guy and keeping him safe and away from harm. My heart hurts to think of it

You'd be surprised. This one lives near the shelter in question, and he actually eats very well by using his nose. Trying to remember his name from Facebook...

No. Sleepy Burrows, the shelter in question, is run by an amazing family.
Here is their story of how they started.
"One night while I was watching a wild wombat eat on the grass verge, a vehicle came up in the dark, swerved intentionally to hit it and then drove off, with the occupants laughing. They did not know my truck was parked in the shadows.
I got out and found an adult male wombat with a broken back and his eyes just said to me 'why me, why do this, what did I ever do to them?'
I sat with this wombat until he died as there was nothing I could do at that hour of the night for him. Through tears I promised him that I would help wombats from that night on and that I would make a difference. I promised him and I intend to keep that promise. Over the years we have become known for the work we do with these animals. We have a very high success rate with rehabilitating wombats and getting them back to their rightful home, the bush."
To say that these individuals have enormous hearts and souls is not enough. And yes, this grown man still tears up at the thought of such souls caring for these creatures.

OH MY GOD this brought tears to my eyes what CRUEL CRUEL people there are in this world it just makes me sick to my stomach to think that anything human would do something so uncaring and so traumatic as to hurt any living creature. I want to say that tears are a thought of human emotion and although many may think that men need to be tough and should not show a weak side but for me a man is not a man if there is no emotion in him. That story tore me up inside. Makes me want to think of Murder all the way it is just too bad they could have an accident following such a cruel act. These sort of stories bring out the worse part of me. I understand why you dedicated your life to helping them now.

Not I, ma'am. The folks there.
I am just a fan of their work. And their beautiful depiction of wombats.
