No they dont normally eat together. Resident male Boneybum (left ), head honcho of the area is meeting up with resident female Veg ( right ) and shes giving him a mouth fall. Typical female, in the wombat world that is!
He normallyl backs off or as he has done before try to gently move on closer to the bowl. Veg on the other hand , does not like to share as does our other resident female and king pin of fatty female wombats in the area Daph Daph does. Veg here , is second on the ladder of Wombat boss-ness but she can still stick it to the boys.
He eventually wondered off after a couple of attempts and came back later when loud mouth had finished licking the bowl.

Boy thanks for informing me about that you must of been doing this thing for years as you know so much about these guys. I guess it all goes with the experience. Sometimes it is nice to dedicate yourself to the love and care of these guys. They are lucky to have you

Thats ok, glad your interested. Have been doing wombats for past 6 yrs but done it the proper way though. Actually studied them in their natural environment that being the bush and also in captivity i.e. rehab , orphaned joey's, cruelty cases etc. we have seen most aspects of wombat behaviour. Still a lot to learn though. For instance we have a female in care Suzie , with a now juvenile wombie, Sally , about 16 mths old, she would normally still be with mum out in the wild, but for some reason mother has kicked Sally out.
They now have separate burrows. We believe Mum Suzie wants to leave our care and she has only stayed with us to raise Sally in safety. Suzie has communicated to Sally that you will be ok here, otherwise they would be both be in the same burrow together. Over 3 nights they have either swapped burrows , which is what they do in the wild anyway, or stayed where they were.
There is no explanation that we can think of , as to why mum would kick bub out 5-6 months earlier than she would if they were out in the bush. Wombats ,they are very smart and very underestimated.
