Oh poor baby! Why is he so dirty? Or do wombats just like to play in the dirt?

They are normally very clean. Silo here has been renovating a muddy burrow. He is doing the dirt bath thing for my benefit.

He is giving me the sign that he will attack if i approach any closer. Luckily for me there is a barrier between him and i. Otherwise he would be chewing on my leg about now!

Yeah I've heard they are amazingly strong and quite fierce. Always good to respect beasties!

The females are a lot more placid, but still can give u nasty bite. Yes respect goes a long way.

Yeah it does. I've looked after quite a number of animals in my time, and learned the hard way that "no" means "STOP THAT OR I'LL BITE YOU AGAIN!"

Well now , best leave " little miss scare the hell out of me " in your part of the world. We have enough deadly creatures running around over here. And i take it your not scared of spiders then?

I used to be. I used to be downright phobic. A spider the size of a fingernail would make me faint. This would make sense if I lived in an area with venomous ones but here in Canada we don't have anything that can kill you unless you happen to be allergic. Then one day my son, who was twoΒ at the time, managed to lock himself into the bathroom and I couldn't get to him because a spider that barely measured a centimeter was sittingΒ on the hall carpet. My sister said if the situation hadΒ been more serious then I would have passed it but I don't believe I could have and that idea really scared me. So I began educating myself about them, and the more I learned the less I feared. Now the only time I get upset is when I find one in my bed. At one point I had four tarantulas and I loved all of them. It's also great fun to pick a spider up and watch my relations flee screaming. If I met up with something that could send me to the hospital I would be pretty scared, but nothing here can do anything worse than make me itch so I don't fear them. Some I quite like.

Bloody hell! Im glad you got yourself around that pickle. I tend to toughen up a little when theres someone else around, the fear factor isn't quiet as bad then. However i cry like a big baby when a dirty big huntsman bolts out from the log ive just cut up. Well not cry exactly, scares the livin hell out of me though. I did just cut up his home mind you ,so i cant blame him for being peed off at me.Β

The funnel webs are the big killers but there more to the coast. Plenty of redbacks here that can make you pretty crook. And then theres the tiger snakes and the deadly brown snake and the Red belly blacks , the list goes on. Cant believe i live in the bush , must be crazy! Havent found any in the bed so far, touch wood.

I would cry then! Β

Me too! And yeah I would probably die in ten minutes in Australia because we have some beautiful snakes here, NONE poisonous, and I can just see me saying "Oh hello pretty snake, come here and let me look at you!" and that would be on my tombstone. Unless my friends Tari and Jackee wrote it, then it would say "Here lies Alyx. She kissed a tiger snake. Twat."

I live in the city now, but I've done a lot of camping, including winter camping which is great fun if you have someone to cuddle up to. I once had a wolf pee on my tent. I can still smell it every time I take it out of the bag. The tent not the wolf.

She kissed a Tiger Snake....mmm its got a nice ring to it. A good title for something. Only thing that pees on stuff here are the wombies. You know they can drop up to 80 cubes a nite! Now thats a lot of pooin. Yes cubes , i find a pic for you. Nobody knows why they come out like they do. Mind you its only grass , seeds and stuff. Fab fertiliser! They are herbivores just in case you didnt know.

Did you see the wolf, obviously you did. Im just tryin to picture you in the tent with the wolf just outside peeing everywhere. It would smell just like dog pee i would assume?

Winter is cuddling weather for sure. Shouldn't need winter to do that though. Β  Β  Β

I agree no one should wait for winter for cuddles! And wow - that IS a lot of poo.

Well my best friend and I were camping out in the woods, and at about four in the morning we were woken by wolves howling all around the tent. I have no idea why they were there, but since the local wolves are small and shy we weren't scared. But they kept it up for so long I finally sat up and shouted "SHUT UP!" There was immediate silence. I'm no sure if they had realized we were there until that point. Then I hear the sound of something sniffing the tent, and a moment later there was the unmistakeable sound of water hitting theΒ side and we knew it wasn't raining. Then they left. So no I never did see him, but he shall ever remain in my memory. And tent. Yes it is quite a bit like dog only stronger and with a sort of oily quality to the smell. I don't recommend it for perfume.
