Hi there, sorry for the delay. This little cutie is a " Bare Nosed Wombat " He came to us after his mother was killed by a car. A passer by thankfully stopped to check her pouch and low and behold here was little Silo underneath mother. They are incredibly attached to there mothers for some time and would of stayed with her for up to around 2 yrs.

Another sad story in the world of wombats. We will take care of him for approx that time until its time for him to be released back to the wild.

Check out sleepy burrows.com.au for more stories and stuff.

Thanks for your interest.

Hey dont be sorry miss. Good thing is there are a lot of good stories. Not only the fact that they find there way here to Sleepy Burrows but the fact that we are privileged to be able to see lot of our wombats make it through the long road of recovery.

In a lot a cases when death has knocked on their door and we think it is soon time to make a decision , they somehow pull through and they do make it to the point of release , it is at that moment when they finally walk out by themselves that we know we have done a our job right.

When we see them coming back at all hrs of the morning and feeding at the feed station , we know we have succeeded.

It is even more special, it is hard to find words when a female comes to feed and you see she has one in the pouch. We know then we are  doing what we can to save the species. As small as we are in the big scheme of things , we will save all we can.
