I cant really explain what sounds they make but they make 3 distinct and unique sounds. 1 is a "snort", like a horse. This is mainly done by the females, a signal that they acknowledge someones close by and to" dont bother me".
1 is what we call the " Hannibal Leckter " done mainly by the males . With the combination of teeth chattering , these are signals that they are challenging another male and an attack is quiet probable.
Females also tend to do a high pitched scream from a short 1 second burst to a longer 4-6 seconds depending on situation, done primarily when threatened This is their main line of defence rather than just fight. They are a lot more sensible! If that fails they usually run off. They will charge and bite if necessary.
