I was looking through the previous posts, and no one has said that the toolbox looks like the one from Toy Stroy 2 where the toy repair man was fixing Woody, except that that one was brown. Did you have your own toolbox that you used to create the 3D model, or did you image the design yourself? It is very interesting to see the steps you took when creating this magnificent work ( by the way; I followed the link you posted earlier to the CGTalk gallery). The teddy bear just seems so funny to me

Well that's one very odd request, I tell you.
If it's your school project, I definitely think you should do it by yourself o_O

Thank you again ^_^ And as I forgot before thank you very much for the devwatch as well
About the toolbox and the tools ... yeah there's no chance I would've figured those tools up without some reference photos. So yeah I did use a lot of photos while modeling the tools. But at least the positioning of the tools and all the colors and composition is from my mind.

wow, it's nice to see how much attention you paid to the details, I really love the reflection on the goggles, and all those little cracks and pieces on the floor
you also have a good use of DoF, the only thing that bothers me is the lack of a real focus point here. otherwise, well done
Daniel

Thank you very much for the comment.
Yeah, actually the drain was meant to be some kind of a focus point - but I'm glad you mentioned it doesn't work like I expected. Gotta be more sure next time.
Nice gallery btw

yeah, the drain has some good values there, and the reflection/spec light works as a little focus, but I feel like it could be a bit stronger.
and thanks a lot

maxon In reply to AdeBlath [2006-04-04 13:13:00 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much ^_^
Yes, you understood that right. Though we have also all kinds of courses like flash, color theory, entrepreneur information, perspective drawing, ArchiCAD, programming, painting, anatomy and stuff. But sure the main focus is 3D modeling and animation - I think about 80% the education includes 3D and Photoshop in some way.
In addition, I don't know how the things are in UK, but here in Finland this whole thing is free for me. And lunch in cafeteria is 2/3 cheaper for students. Plus students get some kind of welfare-money, which allows us to live in our own apartments (cheaper with a lot of flatmates) with no need to go to job - so more time to do 3D on freetime. The only hard part is to get into the school. Only about 25 out of 800 gets in in a year - for the 3D-studies of this school, that is. I applied for 4 schools a year ago, lemme tell you that was a lot of work.
But all in all I think things are pretty good in Finland, except the weather of course

i love this piece for a couple of reasons; the realism is outstanding in some areas, while other parts of it take on a more cartoony appearance. the way you've done it here is fantastic. i love this effect!

maxon In reply to chromosphere [2006-04-01 12:45:23 +0000 UTC]
omg, I just love your work Immediate +watch, I say. Somehow the work [link] appeals to me the most, though you've certainly put much more effort to some of the other projects. I sure like them all
And thank you for the kind words. It's nice if there can be seen some cartoony appearance in this picture of mine, I like cartoony very much - though with this project I tried to aim somewhat realism I think. Although not for upcoming projects anymore, this pic is already too much realism to me. I'm all about making senseless stuff, that makes the picture usually very fun to watch

thank you! dA grilled cheese is pretty amusing - i worked on it a bunch to get it just right even though it's not my most complicated piece, i had to listen to the masses.
again thanks, and from one fan to another, i'm looking forward to seeing some new works from you!
