I'm basically spending the first week of vacation finishing up a bunch of art pieces I've wanted to do for a while but have been stuck at the sketch stage.

I've had the portrait sketch done for six months now and knew I wanted to finish the piece, but had no idea which medium I was going to go with, as it would really lend itself well to whichever I chose. I rewatched this movie with a friend recently and decided it was time to finally finish it off. Acrylic gouache ended up being the winner, partially because it's easier on the wrists than markers and partially because I found more canvas panels while cleaning out my closet.

If anyone's interested in seeing the film, it's a rotoscope-animated fantasy film available on Shudder. It does have a lot of gore and strong language so it might not be for everyone, but it has fantastic representation and an epic plot that ties together beautifully despite the long passage of time. Fair warning that there is a lot of nudity, but no sexual content. It treats bodies as bodies, which is honestly really nice to see. I might have to do some more character studies from it (this one is Kestlewren, but I'd love to draw Tzod and a few others), maybe as a concentrated 6 character challenge. We'll see.

Anyway, I'm going to eat some lunch and then watch a show that will emotionally destroy me. If anyone needs me I'll probably be ugly crying.
