This is a long overdue painting for my wonderful nephew, Patrick! He is an outgoing and talented 18-year-old young man. He also has an amazing affinity to music and plays the piano and clarinet.I remember when he was three years old, he was so mesmerized by the sound of a piano in the Capilano Bridge gift shop in Vancouver, that he declared he wanted to learn to play the piano. His mom and I were dumbfounded as he immediately asked us to find him a piano teacher. He started his lesson on a baby-size piano keyboard a few weeks later.
A few months ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Patrick is a fan of my art. He especially loves my Asian Meme. I want to dedicate this painting to him, because the title of the painting reminds me how I was when I was his age. He has the whole world ahead of him.

The poetry of painting simply does not get any better than this. Every stroke of the brush like the one in the Lady's hand cannot be other than a poignant love song in technicolor. Most especially love the sentiment in the title, never being one to abide by a predetermined destiny for those who have keen minds and capable hands who can write a path of their own determination so very fluently as this. Give a true artist a piano, a paint brush plus canvas, or a Tabula rasa and just get out of heir way and watch them create. few things in the human conditon are nearly so great.
