Description I found a few interesting models on www.scifi-meshes.com including a nice model of LEXX [link] I then managed to find a poser conversion here [link] It seems to have originated with ScyBladeghost His readme specifically says, "do with it as you please" which should imply a public domain license. Daz Forum member "vicshannon" converted the 3DS to OBJ, and Mediasponge then created the textures. I think there is also a 'firing' set of items he created, but I ended up doing my own firing simulation here... [link]

Items used;-
(Daz3v1.2.32 to Reality1v25 to Lux0v8)

I won't list all the settings for the materials, other than to say I ended up playing with most of the textures in Reality, I quite liked the effect on the main dark part of the 'face' which is actually set to velvet!

The background image was also used as an IBL and is from the NASA archive. It is of the Orion Nebula [link]

I also strategically positioned a Reality sun. Both IBL and sun set to a gain of 1.0, the sky was turned off.

Lux exposure control 1/60sec, f5.6, iso200.
Film response = Agfachrome rsx2 200cd

Resolution = 1920 x 1200
Samples per pixel = 2960
Final render time = 86 hours 30 min

no post work other than sig and banner

Ship "Lexx" merges with the background. It would be much better to use a dark background.

Ah yes, you are right! I used this background as it added some of the colours to the mirror surfaces on Lexx... but a darker background would have given more contrast. I did use a darker one for the firing sequence linked too... `Β¬)

I'll also have to check out your tutorial for using Dformers at some point and see if I can wrap my head around them a little more. I imagine they can be highly beneficial if you know what you're doing with them.

I haven't seen much of the show but I followed your link to youtube and considered buying the set myself. I like that you can get it bundled with Farscape and Babylon 5 on Amazon. I used to own all of Farscape but my ex ended up with most of my DVDs somehow.

Binxie!! Where have you been? I'm on vacation now at Masha's family farm. School doesn't start for another week for me. I go to a private school. So I haven't had a chance to do your fog-shadow-light thing. All I can do is paint. Although Masha does have a big computer for rendering stuff, I haven't gotten on to it to respect the family. I'm here to have fun and do stuff, not sit and do 3D art on her computer. But at some point, I will try your tutorial. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of picture to make though but you'll be the first to know when I do it.

This is an awesome picture. It was only after I googled Lex that I figured out what it was about. I've never seen the show but it sounded cool on google. That is the weirdest spaceship I've ever seen. I thought it was a bug at first. I really love the background. The Orion nebulae is one of my favourites and Orion is my favourite constellation. I think it's cool you made your own IBL out of it. Awesomeness!! I still marvel at your render times. 86 hours. You are way too dedicated. I usually go for twenty max and then I want my computer back.
